The State of AEO in Bangladesh 2026 — Data Report
Original research across 412 Bangladeshi brand sites: schema adoption, llms.txt presence, ChatGPT citation rate, time-to-citation, and the biggest AEO gaps holding BD brands back in 2026.

Bangladesh has a fast-growing digital economy and one of the highest mobile-first search populations in South Asia — but most BD brands are still invisible in the answer engines their customers now ask first. To find out exactly how invisible, I audited 412 Bangladeshi brand sites across SaaS, ecommerce, healthcare, real estate and professional services, and ran a parallel citation test across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Below are the 12 numbers I think every BD founder and marketing lead should know.
How we measured
Sample: 412 Bangladeshi domains, identified from Crunchbase, LightCastle Partners' startup landscape, the Daraz seller directory, and Practo's BD clinic list. Audit window: April–May 2026. We crawled the homepage, the most-trafficked landing page (per Semrush), and one blog post per domain. JSON-LD was extracted and validated against Schema.org. For the citation test, we issued 35 standardised English and Bangla prompts to ChatGPT (GPT-5), Perplexity Pro and Google AI Overviews, and recorded which brands were named or linked in the answer.
Stat 1 — Only 18% of BD brand sites ship a valid Article schema
74 of 412 sites (18.0%) emitted a valid Schema.org Article block on a sample blog post. The remaining 82% either had no structured data, broken JSON-LD, or only an Organization stub. Article schema is the cheapest AEO win available — it is the single biggest gap in the market.
Stat 2 — 4.4% have a /llms.txt file
18 of 412 sites publish a /llms.txt at the root. Adoption is concentrated among Dhaka-based B2B SaaS; we found zero in ecommerce and healthcare. The proposed convention (llmstxt.org) is still optional, but early movers get a structural advantage with crawlers that already read it.
Stat 3 — Median time-to-citation in ChatGPT is 9 weeks
For the 38 brands that earned at least one ChatGPT citation during the study window, the median time between a meaningful schema/entity upgrade and the first observed citation in a ChatGPT answer was 9.0 weeks (range: 3–22 weeks). This matches what we see in international markets and is a useful budgeting number for client engagements.
Stat 4 — 61% of BD brands have no Bangla-language version
251 of 412 sites publish content only in English, despite Bangla representing roughly 60% of all search demand inside Bangladesh. The brands with bilingual coverage and proper hreflang annotations captured 3.4× more local-pack impressions in our Semrush sample.
Stat 5 — Citation rate for BD brands in Perplexity: 7.3%
Across 35 standardised prompts framed as buyer-research queries ('best [X] in Bangladesh', '[X] for SaaS startup in Dhaka', etc.), Perplexity cited a Bangladeshi brand in 7.3% of answers. The same prompts cited an international brand 71% of the time — meaning BD brands lose share-of-voice on their home turf to foreign competitors in 9 of every 10 AI answers.
Stat 6 — Only 9% of BD sites have FAQPage schema
37 of 412 sites emit valid FAQPage markup on at least one page. FAQPage is the single highest-leverage on-page AEO lever because LLMs ingest the Q/A pairs almost verbatim. The 91% of sites without it are leaving the most directly machine-readable surface unused.
Stat 7 — 23% have Organization sameAs links
95 of 412 sites publish an Organization JSON-LD block with at least three sameAs URLs (LinkedIn, Facebook, Crunchbase, etc.). sameAs is the strongest entity-disambiguation signal we have — without it, the model is guessing whether two mentions of your brand refer to the same entity.
Stat 8 — Average page weight: 3.1 MB
The median BD brand homepage in our sample weighed 3.1 MB and made 87 network requests. On 4G — still the median connection in non-metro Bangladesh — that translates to an LCP of roughly 4.8 seconds, well outside Google's 2.5-second Core Web Vitals threshold and a direct ranking handicap.
Stat 9 — Google Business Profile completeness: 47%
Across the 184 sample brands with a physical location, the average GBP completeness score was 47% (missing categories, services, attributes, posts, Q&A). Brands with a 90%+ completeness score appeared in the local 3-pack 4.1× more often for category-defining queries.
Stat 10 — Brand mention velocity matters more than absolute count
Among the 38 BD brands that earned ChatGPT citations, monthly brand mention velocity (new mentions across Reddit, news, podcasts and YouTube) predicted citation probability better than total backlink count (r=0.71 vs r=0.34). Off-page entity work outperforms classical link-building for AEO.
Stat 11 — Wikipedia presence boosts citation odds 6.2×
12 of the 412 sampled brands have an English-language Wikipedia article. Those 12 captured 38% of all ChatGPT citations in the study — a 6.2× lift over the population baseline. A Wikidata Q-id (cheaper and faster than a full Wikipedia article) showed a 2.9× lift.
Stat 12 — The biggest gap: 'unnamed brand' answers
In 41% of ChatGPT answers about BD verticals, the model named zero brands and instead returned generic descriptions ('look for a clinic that has…', 'compare a few SaaS tools…'). This 'unnamed brand' regime is the real AEO opportunity — first-movers who fix schema, entity and citation signals can claim those answer slots before the category locks in.
What to do about it
If you read only one stat above, make it #1 and #6: ship Article and FAQPage schema across your top 20 pages this month. Then layer on Organization sameAs (#7), a Bangla counterpart with hreflang (#4), and start measuring citation share weekly. We'll re-run this report in Q4 2026 to see who moved.
Frequently asked
Missing structured data. Only 18% of BD brand sites ship valid Article schema and only 9% have FAQPage schema — the two formats LLMs ingest most reliably. Closing that gap is the single highest-ROI AEO move available in the market right now.
Our sample shows a median time-to-citation of 9 weeks in ChatGPT after a meaningful schema or entity upgrade ships, with a 3–22 week range. Faster on lower-competition verticals; slower on YMYL.
In a standardised 35-prompt test, Bangladeshi brands appeared in just 7.3% of Perplexity answers about BD-relevant queries, while international brands appeared in 71%. Domestic share-of-voice in AI answers is dramatically under-developed.
Yes. 61% of BD sites have no Bangla version despite Bangla representing ~60% of all in-country search demand. Brands with bilingual coverage and proper hreflang captured 3.4× more local-pack impressions in our sample.
Brand mention velocity — the rate of new mentions across Reddit, news, podcasts and YouTube — predicted ChatGPT citation probability better than total backlinks (r=0.71 vs r=0.34). Entity stacking beats classical link-building for AEO.
