Woman breaks into pound to get her canine earlier than it is euthanized

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma City girl stated she broke into the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare constructing to take again her canine Hazel, which was hours away from being euthanized for being harmful.

Toya Stewart was arrested and is now accused of breaking into the animal shelter after taking off with the pit bull.

Stewart informed KFOR on Friday she had simply been launched from jail after going to the shelter to take Hazel after officers deemed the canine to be harmful.

“She doesn’t deserve it, and they knew that I loved her,” Stewart stated. “Why would you kill somebody that somebody loved so much?”

Stewart stated she received Hazel when the canine was two months previous. It was her canine by way of what she stated was an abusive relationship and when she was homeless.

“She helped me through a lot,” Stewart stated. “She protected me through this relationship and protected me through life.”

However, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Superintendent Jon Gary stated Hazel had some points.

“We originally impounded the dog due to dangerous charges being filed against the dog,” Gary stated.

Stewart stated Hazel had been concerned in a number of biting incidents and one canine struggle. However, Stewart stated she by no means had any issues round their household.

“She was just real protective,” she stated.

When the canine was put within the shelter and ordered to be euthanized by a choose who reviewed the incidents, Stewart determined to go after her.

“I couldn’t let her die like that,” Stewart stated. “I had to let her know that I’ve tried everything for her.”

Stewart stated after she broke in, she pried Hazel’s cage open and took off.

Stewart stated she stored Hazel at her dwelling for a number of days till police tracked them down. Hazel was put again within the shelter whereas Stewart was taken to jail.

“She stayed beside me,” Stewart stated. “She just doesn’t deserve that.”
